I can’t possibly be the only person who shops on the weekend and is completely out of fresh fruit by Thursday, right?  I have always stashed overripe bananas in the freezer for baking, but have recently taken to turning them into the kids’ new favorite drink – sunrise smoothies.  I have one child that doesn’t like bananas and another child who doesn’t like orange juice, so the smoothie obviously has magical powers that bring everyone together.  Greek yogurt adds a nice dose of protein and calcium.

Sunrise Smoothie (makes 4 servings)

Approx 1.5 cups frozen strawberries
1 small ripe banana, fresh or frozen
1 cup Greek vanilla yogurt
1 cup orange juice

Blend all ingredients in a high-powered blender until completely smooth.  Makes 4 servings.

Choosemyplate.gov has lots of other tips for getting more fruit into the day, especially for kids.  I would love to hear your ideas!
